Clarinet
Tuition
in the
Staffordshire Moorlands
area
I
teach the Clarinet privately and in several schools
in the Staffordshire
area, encouraging children with their musicianship
and through their grade examinations from beginner
to beyond . The Clarinet is a funny fellow, so
masculine, yet quirky, with a whole mind of its
own! If it decides that it doesn't want to play,
then it doesn't and this can be quite a problem for
beginners of the instrument. It is a bit like
embarking upon a weight training course when you
first start playing the chunky, weighty instrument.
It is also very rewarding when you have been
practising some awkward fingering and it starts to
sink in to produce "music". It often feels like you
are fighting with your instrument and constantly
trying out different reeds to produce a better
sound. But regular practice pays off over time and
the fighting will be replaced by
enjoyment.
I use 'Cool
Clarinet' by Heather Hammond or "Clarinet Basics"
by Paul Harris as a starting point for
beginners.

These
books will take the pupil up to about grade 3 level
and after that we move on to the varied selection
of music available for the Clarinet. Tuition for
the Associated Board examinations will be included
in the lessons if requuired. The
'Guestspot'
books
are available for the Clarinet and these are a very
useful addition to the lesson as they add enjoyment
while the pupil is in-between the intensity of
grade work.
Theory of
Music
Tuition
for the Associated Board Theory
examinations
will be included in the lessons if
required.
